Peer Mentoring

More experienced students from within schools/colleges and Universities are trained to mentor younger, less experienced students. This model recognises the importance, influence and impact of peer mentoring / tutoring. The aim is to harness and channel peer dynamics within a formal framework of support

Target group

  • Mentors selected from the Aimhigher cohort benefit from mentor training and increased self confidence.
  • Younger students benefit academically and socially from the support of a more experienced older student

Benefits of Peer Mentoring

  • Creates an ethos of collective responsibility.
  • Builds confidence in both mentors and mentees
  • Personal development can be recorded for NRA.
  • A “Buddy” support system is very positive
  • An NOCN accreditation at Level 2/3 is available for peer mentors. Schools need to help students collate a portfolio of evidence.

Quote from a Peer Mentor

“ There were times in the past when I could’ve done better if I had a mentor, someone to talk to , to listen to me, to help me. Mentoring has been very enjoyable and I have learnt a lot about myself. Its been good helping someone else”Quote from a Peer Mentor “ There were times in the past when I could’ve done better if I had a mentor, someone to talk to , to listen to me, to help me.
