ITT/PGCE Student Tutor Mentees
Mentors are students from local Higher Education establishments who are
on their final ITT / PGCE placement. They volunteer to mentor students as part of their teaching practice.
Examples include:
- PGCE / ITT secondary students supporting Year 9 – 12 school/college students whilst on teaching practice.
- PGCE students mentoring in their specialist subject area, targeting students from your Aimhigher cohort studying for GCSE & AS/A2 and AVCE’s.
- Specialist subject specific mentoring e.g. LMU graphics / media students mentor Post 16 Art students.
- Peer Mentoring – Leeds Met University 2nd & 3rd year students mentoring School/College students who are hoping to study a similar course.
- Health & Social Science students mentoring 6th formers and also developing emerging projects on/off University sites – diet, nutrition, physiology, applied science
Training
- PGCE/ITT students receive onsite mentor training and an induction
- Leeds Mentoring brief, train and induct Aimhigher cohort students (mentees) and identify their wants, needs.
- Mentor meetings are for 20-30 minutes every week.
- PGCE student mentors receive a letter of thanks from the Chief Executive of Education Leeds. This outlines the support they have provided and the training received.
