A BME Mentor is a postgraduate or undergraduate student from one of the Leeds Universities. They support and help motivate a less experienced BME school/college student reach his/her true potential. In this project an older more experienced person who has progressed to HE and achieved success acts as a positive role model.

The BME mentoring project works closely with educational establishments (schools, FE colleges & Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) to deal with educational disadvantage and disaffection among young people from some of the most socially and economically deprived communities in Leeds. BME positive role model mentors from local Higher Education Institutions will be recruited to offer general and subject specific support and as well as guidance, motivation, confidence building and help with personal issues and problems.
This project is unique because it provides an opportunities for BME students in schools to access additional support from BME role models/peers who have achieved.
